Quick answer: there isn't one best AI. For most people, ChatGPT is the easiest all-rounder, Claude is the best writer, and Gemini has the most generous free plan. All three are free to start, and the paid tiers all cost about $20 a month.
Best AI by what you're doing
| Task | Start with | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Everyday questions | ChatGPT | Easiest to use, does a bit of everything |
| Writing that sounds human | Claude | Less robotic tone, good at editing your drafts |
| Research with sources | Gemini or Perplexity | Gemini's free plan includes Deep Research |
| Images | ChatGPT or Gemini | Both make images on their free plans, with limits |
| Video | Google Vids (Veo) | 10 free clips a month on a personal Google account |
| Coding | Claude or ChatGPT | Both are strong; their paid plans add coding tools |
What the free plans give you
- ChatGPT Free: unlimited text chats (fair use), with limited uploads, images, voice and memory. It may show ads. Go is $8/mo, Plus is $20/mo.
- Claude Free: Sonnet and Haiku models, web search, memory, up to 5 projects. Pro is $20/mo ($17/mo yearly).
- Gemini Free: a Flash model, images, Deep Research, Gemini Live and 15 GB storage. AI Plus is $4.99/mo, AI Pro is $19.99/mo.
Should you pay?
Only once you hit the free limits every day. Don't pay for two. Pick the one you open most and stick with it for a month.
The part nobody tells you
Which AI you use matters less than how you ask. A vague question gets a vague answer in every app. If you want to get good at this quickly, AI Master Pro ($12.99/mo, 4.8★ from 52 Whop reviews) teaches prompting and automations step by step. Or grab a $17 pack of 1,000+ marketing prompts and copy what works.
